Catholic Biblical Scholar Certificate Series

Our first topics are The Ethics of the Gospel of John: Challenges for today's Interpreters with Dr. R. Alan Culpepper, and Catholic Biblical Scholarship. We meet approximately 6 times for each speaker to discuss the topic and deepen our understanding of Scripture. This is a one year program that combines critical study, lively discussion, and an opportunity to work with some of the country’s top scholars in the areas of Historical Criticism, Biblical Theology, and Biblical Spirituality. Meeting Christ in Prayer
When : Sept 15 to November 3rd 2010 Where : St. Louis Church 7270 SW 120th Street Pinecrest 33156 Language : English		Meeting Christ in Prayer is an eight-week guided prayer experience designed for small groups. It is modeled on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, which is a tried-and-true method of spiritual renewal. By means of prayer, reflection, and faith sharing, Meeting Christ in Prayer introduces participants to various ways of praying, helps them form regular habits of prayer, and provides them with an opportunity to meet Christ anew and to experience support in the Christian life in a new way. Meeting Christ in Prayer meets on Wednesdays for eight weeks and is characterized by the following: • A small group of participants meet with a leader for one hour. • Meetings are designed so that people with little or no experience in praying with others can participate and benefit. • A Participant Guide provides all needed materials. • Using guided exercisesUsing guided exercises, participants pray and reflect on Scripture individually between weekly meetings. Workshop for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
When : Saturday, September 18, 2010, 9:00am-1:00pm Where : St. Bartholomew Parish 8005 Miramar Parkway Miramar 33025 Language : English		Workshop will be offered in English and Spanish Basic Requirements: Candidates will register through their parishes and must be recommended to the Office of Worship in a letter signed by their Pastor To be Commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion a person must: 1- Be designated by their Pastor or School Principal/Chaplain 2- Be a Catholic at least 16 year of age, who has been Confirmed and leads a life in harmony with the Faith and the Ministry to be undertaken. Procedure for the Parishes: Contact to be made directly by Parishes and not individuals to the Office of Worship Pastors= letter of recommendation must contain the following: - Names of candidates being recommended listing date, place and language of workshop. - Check to cover registration fee.
