MIAMI — On Saturday, Feb. 20, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy hosted its annual Bobcat Bowl, an academic competition for the seventh graders of its feeder schools.

Fourteen schools participated in this year's event. Each school brought 6 female participants to compete although only four students from each school participated at any given time. The first round of competition was a written exam, including questions about the core academic disciplines.

The top four schools, based on the scores of the written exam, then advanced to the final round, a Jeopardy style contest. The top four schools were: Epiphany, St. Timothy, Blessed Trinity and St. John Neumann.

With the fourth place team competing against the first place team and the second place team against the third place team, Epiphany and St. Timothy won their respective rounds. When they faced off during the final round of competition, St. Timothy won.

All student participants received a certificate and shirt. The first and second place teams also received gold and silver medals, respectively. In addition, the members of the winning team will receive an application voucher to Our Lady of Lourdes next year — that means they will not have to pay the $50 application fee should they choose to apply for admission.

The 10 other schools that participated were: Good Shepherd, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Our Lady of the Lakes, St. Agnes Academy, St. Brendan Elementary, St. Kevin, St. Louis Covenant School, St. Theresa School, and St. Thomas the Apostle.

The members of the winning St. Timothy team were: Andrea Jimenez (team captain), Isabella Hoed de Beche, Lily Vila, Elizabeth Leonart, Samantha Alonso and Sophia Parlade. Their teachers are Lourdes Garcia and Esther Reyes.

While the students were taking the written exam, Our Lady of Lourdes Academy hosted a presentation for the teachers and parents, giving them an overview of the high school’s academic and extracurricular programs as well as college advising. Faculty and students alike gave speeches about the offerings of the all-girls school and their experiences.
